Davis Kontelj, Graduate, Sydney shares his career journey, hints and tips.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I was involved in the clerkship program in 2020 and have been a Minters graduate for close to a year now. Outside of work, you’ll find me in the water as I’m an active life saver and an avid (albeit novice) surfer.

What rotations have you done?

I’m currently on my second rotation in the Sydney Capital Solutions team, having done my first rotation in the Melbourne Real Estate team.

How has the team at MinterEllison helped to support you?

Minters has been fantastic in supporting my needs and ambitions as a junior lawyer. I have always lived near Melbourne, and completed my clerkship and first rotation at the Minters Melbourne office. However, part of me always wondered whether or not Sydney would be a better fit. I loved the idea of living near the surf and the city but was unsure if an employer would support me if I ever sought to make the move. Fortunately, the team at Minters couldn’t have been more supportive of my decision and was vital in helping to facilitate my move from Melbourne to Sydney. Do you have any advice for those going through the clerkship process this year?

My sole piece of advice is to genuinely be yourself during the clerkship process – don’t try to be who you think they might want you to be.
